What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a small screw made of biocompatible titanium that replaces the root of the missing tooth and serves as an anchor for the replacement tooth. Dental implants offer a permanent solution for replacing one or more missing teeth and an alternative to wearing dentures. Nowadays most dental implants are made of pure, unalloyed titanium since the human body is completely hospitable to titanium.
1. Root: This is the implant itself your dentist places directly into the bone.
2. Abutment: The part that connects the root and the crown. It sticks out of the gum so that the crown made by the dental technician can be secured to it in order to achieve the look and feel of a natural tooth.
